"It is very good to copy what one sees; it is much better to draw what you can't see any more but is in your memory. It is a transformation in which imagination and memory work together. You only reproduce what struck you, that is to say the necessary." Edgar Degas.
My artwork is an interpretation of what struck me, the “necessary”. What I create is not a matter of producing what was in front of me, but rather the memory of how it made me feel. My hope is that my work touches the viewer and in some way evokes an emotion or memory for them. I also want to provide the viewer a way to wander through a piece with areas of interest where they can rest and contemplate, as well as experience something different each time they see the piece.
