John Marbury

In 1971, as a young man, I left my home in New Mexico and headed east to Boston, Massachusetts where I was introduced to Robert Douglas Hunter, a prominent New England artist, whom I studied under for 5 years. I also studied under Robert Cormier focusing on still life, portrait and landscape until returning to New Mexico in 1978. In 2009 my wife and I relocated to Tubac Az and I resumed my painting, finding Tubac to be most inspiring. In 2013 I received the People's Choice Award at the Tubac Center for the Arts. I work in my studio/gallery located at El Presidito Studios in Old Town Tubac and teach a beginning drawing class at The Tubac School of Fine Art, is also located there. I use many different mediums, such as oils, charcoal, pencil, and silverpoint. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
